south africa - CAPE TOWN

FEMALE SOLO TRAVELLER IN AFRICA (CAPE TOWN)

Cape Town is a city found in Western Cape, South Africa. It is known as the Mother City.  Cape Town has the No.2 friendliest and most welcoming immigration officers in all countries visited. I felt welcomed female solo traveller in Africa when I arrived.  This was partly due to this lady with a beautiful disposition, who I think works with some of the airlines to welcome visitors.  I will always remember her, helpful and pleasant lady.  The Cape Town airport is also beautifully designed to reflect South Africa and its history.  Nice touch SA!  Before visiting Cape Town, I did my research, but its only when I arrived in the country, I realized the magnitude of its beauty and how cold temperature was.   Before landing you can see snow on some of the mountains, June – August are winter months, so take note if you are planning to visit.

What I love about Cape Town, is the friendliness of the people, as usual I was alone and had no safety issues, the place was very clean and best of all they have the tastiest fish called White fish, Iceland and Cape Town I can easily say have the freshest and most delectable fish.

Cape Town has lots to see and do, the beaches are so inviting, it was winter so I couldn’t enjoy the waters.  Camps Bay, Sea Point and Hout Bay for me are stunning areas and complimented by lots of fish restaurants.  Cape Town is somewhere in the middle of reasonable and expensive.

I will highly recommend taking the boat to Robben Island, buy your ticket in advance, preferably, as this is very popular activity (ride is a bit more than an hour and waters can be very choppy), this is where Mandela was kept as a political prisoner for many years.

On this island is a special church called the Garrison Church, it opens its doors once a year on Valentine’s day to cater for weddings, its so popular that numerous couples from around the world wait their turn to tie the knot on that day.  Take a cable car ride up to Table Mountain, lines can be very long but it’s definitely a must do experience, double jacket up because it’s extremely cold up there.  From below its looks like a normal flat top mountain, however, when you get to the top you are amazed to see there are restaurant and washroom facilities and the view is heavenly.

A visit to Lion Head mountain is also a good idea for those who like the rush of climbing.  Hang out at the lovely Victoria & Alfred Waterfront, it is a must!! and also you cannot leave Cape Town without going to a wine tasting or viewing the many Wine lands, after all South Africa is the No. 7 wine producer in the world.

There are endless things to do in Cape Town, those are just my top choices.  Go, See, and Enjoy.  South Africa is one of MY top 5 countries I have travelled.   I would love to revisit Cape Town.  Currency used – South African Rhand.  Language spoken – Afrikaans Xhosa and English.
