FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

WHY DO YOU TRAVEL ALONE!?!

Many people who choose not to travel alone, think that it is such a scary thing or that I may not even be travelling alone.  What many don’t realize is that many women and men are travelling alone LOTS!! … I have met as young as 18 and as old as 70 and what may surprise you is that they are mainly women.  Here i discuss some of the frequently asked travel questions I have been asked over time.

I travel alone mainly because I am single and I am not the groupie type.  As someone quoted “The man who travels alone, can start today, but he who travels with another must wait until he ready”.

My main factors are, 1. There is also certain amount of peace and freedom you get from not having to wait on anyone or coordinate schedules with others 2. Don’t wish to deal with issues on my travels, because on the long distance journeys, my flight schedules can get crazy at times and this may not work well with someone who may not be accustomed to sitting in a plane for 12 hours and then a layover in another airport sometime half day before hopping on another plane for another 8 hours flight, this can be at time a bit grueling, and can even take two of three days to get to a country (and the last thing I want is someone sulking and complaining) 3. Some people are unwilling to sacrifice and stick to strict financial plan to be able to travel.

To sum it up when you travel alone, you are really never alone, you do make friends, and you have the powers to manage how much time you choose to spend with them, if any at all, in fact I am sure I know someone from almost every country by now, because there are always people from so many different countries, at your hotel or even on a tour site you are visiting.

WHERE YOU GET THE MONEY TO TRAVEL!?!

Yes!!! It’s a question asked by lots of people.  However, those who do not know me, may think …she must be rich!! WRONG!!! I previously referred to myself as “the working poor”…(that’s how I saw it, as long as you are working pay check to pay check with no other source of income).  Words has powers, so my new phrase I am “the working..Soon to be Rich”

This question, where do you get the money to travel, is asked in such a tone that, people think they are entitled to an answer from you, however, no one, (and certainly not me) would ever ask these same people, where they got the money from to buy their new car, tires, rims etc. (how dare me!?!) or how they can afford to eat out so often at expensive restaurants, shop for the latest fashion or do their nails, hair etc every week.

I will say to you, like most things in life, we prioritize I do the same with regards to travel. I make lot of sacrifices/cut backs and strict and very disciplined money management decisions.  I curtail a lot of unnecessary things out of my life to focus on just one TRAVEL!!  It is not that expensive if you know how to do it right and SACRIFICE.

WHO TAKES YOUR PHOTOS!?!

Everyone know I like photos, from the minute I arrive in a country I look for the welcome sign to take my first photo. Usually it’s a bit tougher to get someone to take my photo on arrival as everyone is almost always rushing to get to the immigration line, however, there is always someone who is not in a rush or someone like me, also looking for someone else to take their photo.

I once had a selfie stick and got rid of it as just as quickly as I bought it, because what do you do when you want a photo with the entire background/building etc?!  In the town, on tour or wherever else, the trick is to look for someone is either smiling at you, with a selfie stick or someone who is just standing around, enjoying the scenery, most times it’s a visitor or local just killing time.  You walk up to the person in the humblest of way, with a smile and your sweetest voice, and ask “Could you take my photo pleaseee” If it’s a country where there is language barrier is a problem, I show my camera and pointing on myself and say “photo please”.

I remember once in Ireland, I walked up to a man who was with two others, standing on the Ha’penny bridge, I asked him to take my photo, he obliged, then after he asked me for money, I thought how odd, I gave him 1 Euro, then after he went and sat on the bridge next to one other man.  Wouldn’t you believe it he was homeless…. that’s why I am never without my sanitizer because of the amount of different people who touch my phone or camera during my trips.

DON'T YOU FEEL LONELY OR BORED ALONE!?!

Lonely?? bored?? Hell No!! That’s for nonconstructive people.  Alone, in most instances does not mean lonely.  Even when I am not travelling I am not, far less when I am in a new country with endless possibilities.  So much to explore and discover and enjoy.  Unlike some people who may travel and hang around a hotel all day, my days start with breakfast and then out for the entire day exploring.  By evening you are too tired to get lonely or bored.

Besides, as I previously  mentioned, you are never really alone, you do make friends, with other travellers or even the locals.  It’s up to you to manage you time if you choose to have company.

You can have the same experiences like myself,  with careful planning and learning how to save to travel.  You don’t have to be rich to travel, just be willing to sacrifice and cut back on spending of non-essentials and you can reach your goals.
